State President of AARP Florida

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Heinlen graduated from Miami University in Ohio. For 33 years, he lived and worked in New York City as a senior buyer for the J.C. Penney Company and in sales and marketing for import companies.

Currently, Heinlen serves as state president of AARP Florida. He serves or has served on the National AARP Economic Security Social Impact Workgroup, the Governor's NGA Policy Florida Team on Older Workers and Civic Engagement of Older Adults, the Sarasota County Senior Advisory Council,  the Sarasota Memorial Hospital Senior Advisory Council and the Sarasota Volunteer Engagement Action Team of "Sarasota a Community for All Generations."

Doug Heinlen resides in Sarasota as a Florida retiree, along with his wife. The Heinlens have a grown daughter.
