Miami-Dade Market President, Great Florida Bank

Obdulio Piedra, a native of Havana, Cuba, began his banking career thirty-two years ago and since then has held various positions in banking. Experience includes consumer retail banking, operations, marketing and community relations and market president over the course of his employment with Great Florida Bank, Bank of America and Barnett Bank.

Piedra is actively involved in a host of civic and business organizations such as:

  • Board member of the Greater Miami and the Key American Red Cross
  • Boy Scouts of America South Florida Council
  • Appointed to the Florida Financial Literacy Council by Alex Sink, CFO for the State of Florida
  • Appointed to the South Florida Workforce Investment Board by Mayor Carlos Alvarez

Previously he has served on the executive committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Hispanic Business Group and Challenge 2000 Membership Drive and served in the Strategic Planning Committee 2003. He is also involved in other boards such as the Early Childhood Initiative 2000-2002. He served in the transitional board for Pan American Hospital from 2005 to 2007 having been appointed by U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge A. Jay Cristol.

Piedra served as president of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana 1999-2001 and currently is secretary of the Kiwanis Little Havana Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that focuses on supporting programs for the elderly, education and children’s issues. The club promotes Hispanic culture through events such as Carnaval Miami.

Piedra is a graduate of St. Thomas University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1984. He earned an associate in arts degree from Miami-Dade College in 1980.
